This course is available to all managers of staff (including team leaders and supervisors) and will develop and increase your confidence in how to effectively manage sickness under the attendance management procedure and provide wellbeing support for staff.

Learning outcomes

By the end of this course you will be able to:



  • understand the importance of management accountability, responsibilities and decision making in relation to our attendance management policy

  • have the ability to identify the differences between long and short term absence

  • know how to conduct return to work interviews and absence review meetings in line with policy

  • be able to identify when it is appropriate to refer to the Occupational Health Service

  • have the ability to manage disability related absence, or a long term condition, in line with policy and the Equality Act 2010

  • know where to look on the Wave to find relevant attendance management information

  • understand where to find key signposting information to support staff with their wellbeing
