Overview

To deliver high quality services, it is essential that the council attracts, recruits and subsequently retains high calibre employees. It is, therefore, essential that recruiting managers comply with the current Recruitment & Selection Policy and other related policies, strategic initiatives and the current employment legislation.

Throughout this course participating group work will give you the opportunity to gain practical skills to use for conducting effective, non-discriminatory and inclusive interviews.


This course is for you if:



  • you are likely to carry out recruitment in the near future

  • you have not had previous recruitment and selection training

  • you would like to be able to ask effective questions at interview

  • you would like to practice your interviewing style.



Prior to attending this course all delegates must have completed the updated Recruitment & Selection mandatory e-learning course. Please do make sure you book out time in the four weeks prior to complete this elearning course, as non-completion may result in you not being able to attend this date.

Learning outcomes

By the end of this course you will be able to:



  • Recognise how to prevent discrimination happening in BHCC’s Recruitment and Selection process

  • Identify the skills and behaviours which are essential for the job you are recruiting to

  • Create a range of interviewing questions to identify whether candidates have the skills and behaviours needed

  • Apply a range of interviewing questions, using a probing model, to identify whether candidates have the skills, values and behaviours needed

  • Develop and practice your interviewing and probing skills

  • Recognise the importance of communicating effectively, both verbally and non-verbally
