PROACT-SCIPr-UK® is an organisational approach to understanding behaviour and supporting individuals to manage their own behaviour using Positive Behaviour Support.

The programme has been amended due to the Covid-19 outbreak and infection prevention control measures and special instructions for attending this course are detailed below in the additional information. Please ensure these are read and understood before applying and attending the programme. Delegates can also request a full copy of the risk assessments that cover this training course.

This training day 2 is for new staff working at 55 Drove Road, who work with young people with learning difficulties.

The course will include:

  • reaction to crisis

  • calming techniques

  • legal issues and risk assessment

  • health & safety around physical interventions taught

  • record, reporting, record keeping documentation

Audit based physical interventions:

  • protective stance (stage 2)

  • front approach prevention

  • two person touch support

The course includes a short written test to assess participants' understanding of course content and an assessment of the physical interventions taught during the course.

Learning outcomes

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • describe the health & safety and legal implications of using restrictive physical interventions

  • recognise the phases of behaviour escalation and how to plan interventions at each phase

  • explain the importance of risk assessment for pupils and colleagues

  • identify the need for recording and reporting of incidents

Additional information

VERY IMPORTANT – It is essential that you and your manager read the attached COVID-19 Risk Assessment Guidance for Training Participants before attending this training.

Participants will be required to wear loose, comfortable clothing and shoes that are flat with an enclosed toe. There is an element of physical activities during the course and participants will be asked to remove excessive jewellery.

You will be required to complete a medical declaration at the beginning of your course and please speak to your instructor if you feel you are not able to fully participate in any of the physical activities.
