This course is designed specifically for all staff with day to day financial management responsibilities. 

The online learning and the course are mandatory for all budget holders. If you are an existing budget holder and have yet to complete training or if you have new budget holder responsibilities, this training is for you.

Learning outcomes

By the end of this course you will be able to:



  • apply the principles of good financial management

  • understand the TBM process, including timescales and accessing monthly reports

  • understand the figures contained in the monthly reports and what they represent

  • analyse and interpreting monthly reports including the salary pay file

  • take corrective action to resolve budget monitoring issues and who to inform when things go wrong

  • calculate forecast figures and the practical application of completing the TBM forecast report

  • know where to access further learning

1)  Online learning module – Financial Management for Budget Holders - which must be completed before attending the course.   This will help budget holders understand best practice financial management in the council.


Your booking may be cancelled if the requirements are not met two weeks before the course commences.
