Overview

This 4-hour interactive course is for senior council adult social care staff and private and independent care homes/domiciliary senior staff.  The course will look at supporting senior staff to develop and implement a medicines policy and associated audits, as well a general update on any new local/national legislation and guidance.  In addition it will focus on examples of good practice guidance for assessing staff’s medicines administrations competencies.  The course is delivered by a senior pharmacist from the local Clinical Commissioning Group and has been developed locally based on local training needs and links into the Brighton and Hove City Council and Clinical Commissioning Group medicines management policies.

  • Explain the NICE Guidance on Managing medicines in care homes

  • Identify the areas that should be included in a care homes medicines policy

  • Use audits effectively to assess medicines management practices

  • Recognise common errors and how to manage them

  • List local services and initiatives to support medicines management
