Overview
These sessions are co-facilitated with Fulfilling Lives Staff
This course will enable participants to develop their understanding of “Dual Diagnosis” and work more effectively with service-users who present with complex needs including mental health and substance use issues. Participants will review key concepts, explore attitudes and myths, discuss best practice in client work, and know what treatment pathways and local support systems are available.

Learning outcomes
By the end of the modular training, learners will be able to:
- Explore the complex relationship between mental ill health and substance use
- Identify key issues facing clients & how these may affect their access to appropriate service provision
- Discuss ways of evaluating and minimising risks
- Discuss ways of working effectively as a non-specialist with clients with complex needs
- Practice in simulated situations how to deliver effective engagement strategies
- List treatment pathways and key service providers in the city
- Explore the symptoms and contributing factors of burnout and make a plan to manage trauma exposure response.
- Identify guidance and further resources available
