This half day knowledge and theory virtual Teams session is designed to increase staff awareness of the possible injuries to themselves and to enable them to carry out transfer operations safely. The course includes informal discussions on the theory and knowledge of Safer People Handling.

This virtual Teams session is only for Brighton and Hove City Council Adult Social Care staff and is open to both new starters and staff refreshing.

Following this virtual session there will be Safer People Handling – Practical Sessions running at Montague House which will cover the transfer techniques and the use of transfer aids.  Please book on a date / time you can attend.

Certificate - please note your certificate for this course will only show you having covered the knowledge and theory elements of Safer People Handling. To be fully certificated for Safer People Handling this certificate must be accompanied by the certificate covering the practical element of Safer People Handling. It is expected that both courses/sessions are completed within a reasonable timeframe.

• By the end of this course you will be able to:

• define what is meant by safer people handling and explain the assessment criteria

• describe the anatomy, physiology and mechanics of the back

• discuss the importance of reporting in relation to manual handling

• define the need for developments in the way care packages are delivered

• list a number of employer and employee responsibilities (both legal and ethical) that combine to enhance safer people handling practice

• identify some of the potential barriers to safer people handling that may exist

How to access the Virtual online Teams sessions: -

If you have Teams:
Open Outlook calendar meeting > click Join
Select your device camera, and microphone settings and click Join
Wait for the meeting organizer to let you in

 
If you don’t have Teams:
Open Outlook calendar meeting
Click on the “Join Microsoft Teams Meeting” link
You will see “Download the windows app” or “Join on the web instead”.
Please click on “Join on the web instead”

We hope you can access the training with no technical difficulties. Your experience with Microsoft Teams will differ depending on the device you are using.

If you have Windows 10, you shouldn’t have any difficulties.

With Windows 7, you should use Teams on the web using the Chrome web browser on your laptop. Go to https://office.com/ and log in with your usual council login details.

If you're using Citrix on a personal device, you should use the web version of Teams outside of Citrix, as using Teams directly within Citrix will give you limited access.
