Knowledge is changing rapidly around the experiences and capabilities of those who are autistic or have a learning disability, many changes coming from within these communities themselves.

This 15 credit module takes a research and rights focused approach to working with autistic people, learning disabled people, and those who are both autistic and learning disabled.

You will look at these challenges from a family perspective across the lifecourse, considering work with autistic/LD parents, children, teenagers and adults.

This module will be taught online through a combination of prerecorded resources and live seminars during the University’s spring term. Teaching includes input from autistic presenters and from parents. It focuses on developing knowledge to support practice for those in social work, social care, or health, in order to facilitate fresh approaches to working with families and individuals.

You can choose to take the module at an undergraduate or postgraduate level. Whilst both will receive the same taught content, the module assessment will be tailored to meet either BA year 3 standards or MA standards.
