This course is suitable for frontline workers in Children’s Services including schools, foster carers and CVS practitioners and volunteers working with children over 5 years of age.

This one day course enables first aiders to give emergency first aid to someone who is injured or becomes ill. It includes both theory and practical sessions and is designed to boost candidate confidence. There is no final exam but candidates are assessed throughout the course and certificates, valid for three years, are issued to those who have reached the required standard. Each candidate will be provided with a First Aid manual.

This course aims to train delegates to be an initial point of contact in taking immediate action to deal with a casualty at work.

Candidates will be provided with the knowledge and skills required to preserve a life until more qualified personnel arrive to take over. If however, you are taking a lead in first aid in your workplace the three day First Aid at Work course may be more appropriate for you.

NB: Suitable clothing taking some physical activity into account should be worn.

This 2 day course is mandatory for newly qualified social workers and is also suitable for practitioners in Children’s Services working with families where emotional abuse and neglect may be an issue.

The course aims to give participants an opportunity to consider some of the dilemmas involved in working with families where there is emotional abuse and neglect. Lessons from research and Serious Case Reviews will be used to enable participants to identify and define emotional abuse and neglect, explore assessment processes and examine appropriate ways of intervening.

Code: BH/17/013 Safer Handling of Children - Basic Awareness (Priority Children's Services Care Crew) (EVENT FULL)

This course is suitable for Children’s Services and CVS practitioners and carers whose role involves lifting and handling of children and must be completed before undertaking any handling of children in the workplace.
 
If you require a refresher course in safer handling please book on ‘Safer Handling of
Children - Refresher’ which needs to be undertaken within 12 months of completing this awareness course.


The Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992 came into force in January 1993. This legislation places a duty on employers to implement measures to reduce the risks to the staff who are required to undertake manual handling tasks. This course is designed to increase staff awareness of the possible injuries to themselves and to enable them to carry out transfer operations safely.
