Code: BH/19/1300 Medicines Administration - Foundation Course for Care Homes

A practical course teaching how to administer medicines (in original packs) in a systematic way to reduce the chance of errors. It covers the care certificate and CQC requirements for medication training.

The course includes a competence test (simulated medicines rounds) with a follow-on assessment if learners fail this.

This course looks at the main principles of adult safeguarding in line with the Care Act and the Making Safeguarding Personal approach. It explores practice issues regarding abuse or neglect to service users, including the responsibilities of staff in preventing and reporting. This course is aimed at frontline staff who support adults.

This course is aimed at staff involved in the manual handling of adults, including the use of hoists and other support equipment, who have completed the Safer People Handling Basic Awareness training course or a Safer People Handling refresher course within the last 12 months. Important Eligibility Applies - if you last completed training outside of the last 12 month period (30 days beyond this, absolute maximum is acceptable) or you have not completed training in this area before please do not book onto this refresher event, you must complete the bascic awareness event.

It is a National/local directive that staff refresh and update their knowledge and skills regularly. This half-day course will update staff on the possible injuries to themselves and enable them to carry out transfer operations safely.

The Youth Mental Health First Aid course is an internationally recognised course designed specifically for those that teach, work, live with or care for young people aged 8 to 18 years.

The session will be a mix of presentations, discussions and group work activities. Instructors provide a safe learning environment and are trained to support you throughout the whole course. If you don’t feel comfortable joining in certain parts, then there is no pressure to.

This introductory course teaches you how to identify when a young person might be experiencing a mental health issue and how to guide them to get the help they need. Topics covered include:

- What is mental health?

- Depression and anxiety

- Suicide and psychosis

- Self-harm and eating disorders

The 60 credit Dissertation offers students the opportunity to carry out an in-depth inquiry into an area of their advanced social work practice (relating to advanced practice, education, management) which is of particular interest to them; to develop an understanding of, and skills in, research planning in relation to advanced professional practice and to develop further self-directed skills in advanced scholarship.

To apply for the Dissertation you must have completed the PGDip (120 credits). Completion of the Dissertation + the PGDip will result in the Advanced Masters in Social Work (MSc).
