Brighton & Hove is comprised of a diverse community with a range of ethnic and cultural backgrounds. It is crucial that practitioners are skilled and competent in engaging with families from different cultural backgrounds, to work in an anti-discriminatory way and ensure that issues of race and culture are integrated into assessment and decision-making.
Please note that after the first morning session with the facilitator, you will be expected to complete a short practical exercise in the afternoon either on your own or in small groups. You will then get the opportunity to review this with the facilitator, in the morning on the second day.

Code: BH/21/0755 First Aid Half Day Annual Refresher - for council employees and schools ONLY (EVENT FULL)

Who is this course for?

The Annual First Aid Refresher course is primarily aimed at delegates who are qualified in First Aid at Work or Emergency First Aid at Work.

Please note: there is a specific refresher course for Paediatric First Aiders.

Attending an Annual First Aid Refresher course is not a legal requirement for those who are qualified in either First Aid at Work or Emergency First Aid at Work, but is ‘strongly recommended’ by the HSE.

This training is for:

  • People who have a specific responsibility at work, or in voluntary and community activities, to provide basic first aid to people in a range of first aid situations and hold a current qualification in First Aid
  • First Aiders that have previously attended First Aid at Work of Emergency First Aid at Work training and require a refresher to increase their confidence and update their skills and knowledge

This training is not for: First Aiders that need to renew their qualification. 


Purpose

The purpose of this training is to refresh the first aid skills and knowledge of qualified first aiders and emergency first aiders in the workplace.



Objective of the course 

This training will benefit delegates by enabling them to refresh their knowledge and practical competencies needed to deal with a range of first aid situations, covered in the First Aid at Work and Emergency First Aid at Work courses. It is designed to help First Aiders maintain skills and keep up to date with any changes to first aid procedures.

How are delegates assessed?

There are no formal practical or theory assessments.  The trainer will carry out on-going assessment to assess the learners’ knowledge, skills and understanding related to the assessment criteria.

Re-Certification

The Annual First Aid Refresher does not lead to a qualification and is not certificated.  


IMPORTANT: the first aid training programme has been amended due to the Covid-19 pandemic and infection prevention control measures and special instructions for attending this course are provided in the attached guidance document. Please ensure that this is read and understood before applying and attending this course. Delegates can also request a copy of the risk assessments that cover this training course

Please note: Whilst the course is delivered in a covid secure way, please consider with your manager whether it is essential for you to attend as the delegates will be a mix of staff from different workplaces.

Most hoarded properties are ‘cleared out’ by cleaning teams. This leads to greater distress and more intense hoarding activity. Clients with hoarding disorder need understanding and empathy in order to help them to develop new behaviours to cope with their excess belongings. This course gives an overview of the condition and draws on the experiences of the practitioner/trainer in developing skills to work with people who hoard.   

This course is aimed at housing staff and social workers, and takes into consideration the knowledge and skills statement for social workers.
