Being resilient can help you bounce back in tough times, cope with additional pressures and stay healthy in times of change. Learning habits that build your resilience, ready for more turbulent times, will prevent you becoming over-whelmed by circumstances and keep you healthier in body and mind.

This short course will introduce you to a resilience model against which you will self-assess against your current state of resilience, show you how a stronger base of resilience will help you cope with changes at work and home, and give you a taste of mindfulness exercises that can keep you calm and focused in stressful times.

This second of the core courses, is aimed specifically at increasing the understanding, of all categories of abuse, around making assessments, and making appropriate quality referrals, thus preventing further harm/abuse. It will increase your knowledge of how agencies investigate jointly, and provide a better awareness of the purpose of a child protection investigation, how it can be conducted and how this may vary dependant of the type of harm. It should also help clarify your role as an individual and that of the other professionals involved. It is recommended that this training is undertaken by anyone new to a safeguarding role, and that it is completed in conjunction with the other core programme modules, prior to undertaking any specialised course.

This training is provided by the Local Safeguarding Children's Board (LSCB)

Code: BH/17/1492 Personal Relationships & Sexuality - Young People with Learning Disabilities

This course is offered to all children and adult services staff who work with children and young people who have a learning disability.

The main aim of this training is to clarify and explore practice issues around personal relationships & sexuality (PRS) and learning disabilities focussing on increasing staff skills and knowledge in this area. This course aims to build confidence and competence in addressing and responding to issues arising in a practical way, covering topics such as public vs. private behaviours, appropriate touching and masturbation, forming, developing and maintaining healthy personal relationships, managing emotions, saying no, sexualisation and issues relating to pornography, talking about PRS with young people, contraception needs, STIs, sexual health and sexual orientation.

The training also includes an introduction to the following areas in relation to learning disability: sex and the law; capacity and consent and translating policy into practice.

This refresher course is suitable for Pre-school Special Educational Needs practitioners whose role involves lifting and handling of children and must be completed before undertaking any handling of children in the workplace.
 
The Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992 came into force in January 1993. This legislation places a duty on employers to implement measures to reduce the risks to the staff who are required to undertake manual handling tasks. This course is designed to increase staff awareness of the possible injuries to themselves and to enable them to carry out transfer operations safely.

This one day course is designed to increase staff awareness of the possible injuries to themselves and to enable them to carry out transfer operations safely. The course includes informal discussions and practice in transfer techniques.
Numbers on the course are strictly limited to allow time for all participants to practice the various transfer techniques and use of the transfer aids.

Participants will receive an attendance certificate to show that they have received training under the Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992
.

Code: BH/18/0212 Training, Support & Development Standard 5 Workshop (Foster Carers)

Standard 5 - Understand the Development of Children and Young People
The Children’s Workforce Development Council developed a set of 7 Standards to ensure that foster carers are properly inducted into fostering by their Fostering agencies.  These Standards have arisen from the ‘Every Child Matters Agenda’ and from consultation with foster carers. The Department for Education (DfE) have now taken over responsibility for the Standards

Implementation of these Standards will be monitored by OFSTED during their inspections of Fostering Services. 

All foster carers are expected to successfully complete the workbook within 12 months.

All carers can demonstrate their knowledge of the Standards in a variety of ways, including attendance at training, attendance at the New Carers Support Group, reading the Foster Carer Handbook etc. When foster carers have successfully completed the Standards they will receive a Certificate of Completion.
