Code: BH/21/0607 Anti racism and white privilege

Brighton & Hove City Council has made a commitment to becoming an anti-racist council.

As a predominantly white council we must recognise what we don’t know, what we don’t experience and see. We need to openly discuss the language we use and understand what different words mean to different people.

To support this, we want to educate staff on white privilege, language and structural racism, As a starting point, we are offering this training for staff.

This anti-racism session has been designed to:

  • support staff to strengthen their understanding of race equality and develop the knowledge and skills to identify and address racism in their workplace
  • Introduce participants to the main concepts of race equality, such as privilege and structural racism within a safe, open and reflective space

Code: BH/21/0856 Permanence – What does it Mean for Children and Young People and How can it be Achieved?

Social workers make life changing decisions regarding where children should live and who is best placed to meet their needs to ensure that they can be cared for in a way that minimises disruption in their long-term care (permanence). There are a range of permanence options for children including returning home to live with their parents; living with extended family or friends; living in a foster family or being adopted. Making these decisions are complex with social workers required to assess and consider the competing needs of children and family members; weigh different options and manage feelings stirred up in the process. Taking place over four days, this course is for anyone involved in the process of care planning for children. It aims to develop the knowledge and skills to make robust decisions regarding children’s long-term care, ensure children’s needs are met and offers an opportunity to reflect on the impact of making these decisions on the child, their family, carers, social worker and professional network.

Please note, this is a 4 session course, and you need to attend all dates. Please discuss with the trianers if this is a problem, ie clashes with a court date.
