The Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards are an addendum to the Mental Capacity Act. They build upon the principle of least restrictive intervention and are a set of safeguards that apply to people who are being, or may need to be deprived of their liberty, in an acute hospital or registered care home.

This course is for managers within the council's homelessness services.

The two day event provides an overview of psychologically informed approaches, the ways these have been implemented in other areas and the evidence base for interventions. It will give you the opportunity to consider how to develop a psychologically informed approach within your team and how to support staff working with people experiencing or at risk of homelessness.

This course covers the essential elements of food safety to enable you to safely prepare and handle food and to support people with their nutrition and hydration needs.

Course attendees will be given a certificate of attendance. There is a multiple choice assessment at the end of the course which will be marked and given to participants to discuss with their manager upon return to work. The Workforce Development Team will contact the managers of participants who do not pass the assessment.

Developing authenticity and presence. Building rapport with your audience in any context. Developing engaging content using storytelling.

Summary:
A highly interactive workshop where the learning will be experiential. In the morning session, participants will learn about the impact of body language and use of voice to develop presence and confidence. They will practice different personality archetypes as a means to flex communication style and build rapport with a diverse audience.

In the afternoon, they will combine this ‘toolkit’ with storytelling techniques to develop engaging content. The final part of the session will bring it all together by focussing on how to present with confidence in a variety of contexts, with individual coaching. Practising active listening, trouble shooting and fielding individual questions/concerns will be encouraged throughout.

This update is for staff who have attended the safeguarding adults basic awareness training in the last 3 years and need a refresher.

The course is a reminder of the main principles of adult safeguarding in line with the Care Act and the Making Safeguarding Personal approach. It explores practice issues regarding abuse or neglect to service users, including the responsibilities of staff in preventing and reporting this. This course is aimed at frontline staff who support adults.

Youth Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) courses are for everyone who works with, lives with or supports young people aged 8-18. They will teach you the skills and confidence to spot the signs of mental health issues in a young person, offer first aid and guide them towards the support they need. In doing so, you can speed up a young person’s recovery and stop a mental health issue from getting worse. 

This course has been designed specifically with Foster Carers in mind and will include videos of young people talking about their experiences with depression, self-harm, psychosis, suicidal thoughts and eating disorders.
