Code: BH/17/1347 Being an Employee in Brighton & Hove City Council - half day course AM

This half-day course is for all new staff who have recently joined Brighton & Hove City Council.

The course aims are to welcome new staff to the council, provide an overview of the visions and priorities of the council and give an opportunity to learn about the organisational and political structure.

New staff will have the opportunity to meet and ask questions of the chief executive or a executive director. 

The course will briefly cover areas such as learning and development opportunities, staff travel, health, safety and wellbeing, and equalities and diversity.  It is an effective starting point for new staff to increase their knowledge of the city council and network with other new staff.

This course has been designed to give an overview of the civil remedies available to victims of domestic violence and abuse. The course focuses on remedies available for those who do not wish to follow a criminal justice route. The session will focus predominantly on Non-Molestation Orders, Occupation Orders, Prohibited Steps Orders and Domestic Violence Prevention Orders.

The course, for Adult Social Care Staff, enables first aiders to give emergency first aid to someone who is injured or becomes ill. It includes both theory and practical sessions and is designed to boost confidence. There is no final exam however delegates are assessed throughout the course and certificates, valid for three years, are issued to those who have reached the required standard.

Each delegate will be provided with a first aid manual.

Code: BH/18/021 First Aid at Work (3 day) (EVENT FULL)

This course is for those that will be acting as lead first aiders and will provide candidates with a recognised first aid at work qualification.

Upon completion of the course, First Aiders will be able to take control and provide assistance in an emergency situation at their workplace Candidates will be able to respond to an accident or illness promptly, effectively and safely.

Topics covered include: resuscitation and CPR, dealing with wounds, bleeding, burns, scalds, heart conditions and minor injuries.

Attendees will undertake a practical and written assessment on the final day of the course. On successful completion, you will be a recognised First Aider for 3 years; you are not required to attend the one day emergency first aid training as well.

NB: Suitable clothing taking some physical activity into account should be worn.

Self harm affects at least one in fifteen young people and some evidence suggests that rates of self harm in the UK are higher than anywhere else in Europe. Self harm blights the lives of young people and seriously affects their relationships with families and friends. It presents a major challenge to all those in services and organisations that work with young people, from schools through to hospital accident and emergency departments. This course is an introduction to understanding self harming behaviour, exploring the reasons why young people self harm and practical skills and interventions that can help.
