Code: BH/18/0439 First Aid at Work (3 day)

This course is for those that will be acting as lead first aiders and will provide candidates with a recognised first aid at work qualification.

Upon completion of the course, First Aiders will be able to take control and provide assistance in an emergency situation at their workplace Candidates will be able to respond to an accident or illness promptly, effectively and safely.

Topics covered include: resuscitation and CPR, dealing with wounds, bleeding, burns, scalds, heart conditions and minor injuries.

Attendees will undertake a practical and written assessment on the final day of the course. On successful completion, you will be a recognised First Aider for 3 years; you are not required to attend the one day emergency first aid training as well.

NB: Suitable clothing taking some physical activity into account should be worn.

Brighton & Hove is committed to meeting the needs of those harmed by crime and conflict, by ensuring safe, secure and effective restorative practices are embedded throughout the city. This is the pledge made by the city's Community Safety Partnership in 2015.

This training covers the full range of skills outlined in the core 2013 National Occupational Standards for Restorative Practice.

This course was accredited by the Restorative Justice Council in March 2018 to enable learners to facilitate restorative conferences/meetings at the standard required by the Criminal Justice System.

We suggest you complete the two day Drug & Alcohol Basic Awareness course before attending any of the more specialised full day courses. This is to equip you with more general knowledge and skills in preparation for learning about the more in depth topics. This course highlights changing patterns, prevalence and sourcing of substances being used locally and nationally, and aims to increase confidence of professionals working with those who may be using these new psychoactive substances. It develops screening and assessment skills and enables professionals to support service-users via advice and referral to specialist services when relevant.

This one day course is designed to increase staff awareness of the possible injuries to themselves and to enable them to carry out transfer operations safely. The course includes informal discussions and practice in transfer techniques.
Numbers on the course are strictly limited to allow time for all participants to practice the various transfer techniques and use of the transfer aids.

Participants will receive an attendance certificate to show that they have received training under the Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992
.

Code: BH/18/1334 Welcome Session for New Staff - AM (EVENT FULL)

This half-day course is for all new staff who have recently joined Brighton & Hove City Council.

The course aims are to welcome new staff to the council, provide an overview of the visions and priorities of the council and give an opportunity to learn about the organisational and political structure.

New staff will have the opportunity to meet and ask questions of the chief executive or a executive director. 

The course will briefly cover areas such as learning and development opportunities, staff travel, health, safety and wellbeing, and equalities and diversity.  It is an effective starting point for new staff to increase their knowledge of the city council and network with other new staff.
