This introductory course is suitable for Families, Children & Learning Services and CVS staff who work with children and young people who may display challenging behaviour.

Engaging with children and young people who are in crisis and displaying challenging behaviour can be stressful and complex. This course aims to provide practitioners with the skills, knowledge and techniques required to become a catalyst through which children and young people can change destructive responses and problematic behaviour patterns.

This one day course is designed to increase staff awareness of the possible injuries to themselves and to enable them to carry out transfer operations safely. The course includes informal discussions and practice in transfer techniques.
Numbers on the course are strictly limited to allow time for all participants to practice the various transfer techniques and use of the transfer aids.

Participants will receive an attendance certificate to show that they have received training under the Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992

Code: BH/17/812 Working with Men affected by Domestic Violence and Abuse, Sexual Violence and Harmful Practices

This course has been designed to give an overview of supporting male victims of domestic violence and abuse, sexual violence, and harmful practices. The course focuses on the additional barriers faced by men, including the percieved challenges to masculinity. This session will also focus on men's experiences of harmful practices and the reasons this may take place in a patriarchal setting. Information will be provided on definitions, background theories, prevalence, risk factors, case studies and behaviour patterns.

Code: BH/17/863 Children's CPD Module - Practice Education Stage 1

To log your interest for this CPD module please click on “request a place" by 30th June 2017.

This 30 credit module is for practitioners with minimal experience of teaching and assessing others who wish to develop their skills. You must either be a registered social worker with a minimum of two years’ post-qualifying experience or another experienced social care practitioner. You will be a practice supervisor assigned to a social work student while undertaking the course, but you will not have full responsibility for the assessment of the student. The module has been designed to meet Practice Educator Professional Standards for Social Work.

You will learn via a range of teaching methods, including e-learning, workshops, lectures and group discussion. A range of tutors will lead sessions based on their areas of specific expertise.

You must also be in a position where you can be observed fulfilling practice assessments and teaching on at least one separate occasion by an experienced Practice Educator.

This module can be taken as part of a PGCert, PGDip or as a stand alone module. Please indicate on your application whether you are undertaking the module as part of an award (and which award) or as stand alone.

The course will look at how care planning is used as an effective means of communicating, in order that service users are understood, and that their needs are met in accordance with their wishes.
