This course will assist service providers to stay at the forefront of providing services in line with the current commissioning dignity priority.

This half day workshop will give an overview of why we risk assess victims of domestic violence and abuse; the history, purpose and use of the Domestic Abuse Stalking Harassment and Honour Based Violence (DASH) Risk Identification Checklist (RIC). This will include reviewing how professionals can respond to disclosure, including the referral of high-risk cases to a Multi-Agency Risk Assessment Conference (MARAC) process.

This training is essential for managers to be aware of risk management approach in Brighton & Hove City Council and to be able to apply that in their day to day work. 

Risk Management is a key part of the statutory requirement on the council to demonstrate effective corporate governance. Risk management helps the council avoid costly mistakes, better protect our reputation and contribute to keeping the council safe. 

The course will include:

  • an introduction to risk
  • the various types of risks which affect our ability to achieve the Council’s objectives as outlined in the Corporate Plan
  • our corporate approach to managing risk using the ‘three lines of defence’
  • roles, responsibilities and reporting lines
  • a practical session on how to identify, assess, record and treat risk
  • links to the risk requirements in the Behaviour Framework.

A two-day creative and participatory course, the Royal Society for Public Health (RSPH) Level 2 Award provides the learner with the knowledge, skills and confidence to offer opportunistic brief advice to, or engage in, brief interventions with individuals which could improve their health and wellbeing.

Participants will develop skills in reflective listening and be introduced to the principles which underpin motivational interviewing, whilst also considering what helps and hinders the change process, including dealing with resistance and reluctance.

By the end of the course participants will have developed a toolkit of strategies they can apply when working with individuals to facilitate behaviour change.

PLEASE READ: The accreditation is optional. In order to gain the Award candidates are required to complete a 45-minute multiple-choice exam which will be assessed. Successful candidates will receive an RSPH certificate. This costs £20, which will automatically be added to your basket on booking. If you do not wish to take the exam, please specifiy this under 'special intructions' when requesting a place.

The Saturn Centre (The Sexual Assault Referral Centre for Sussex) offers free support and practicl help to anyone in Sussex who has experienced sexual rape or sexual violence. A two-hour tour of the Centre will build an overview of the process undergone at the SARC, explore risks and highlight local support for victims. The tour will include forensic examination rooms, interview rooms and will highlight the roles of specialist trained staff and roles of local services such as the Independent Sexual Violence Advisors (ISVAs) who are provided by Survivor's Network as part of the Portal.
