We suggest you complete the two day Drug & Alcohol Basic Awareness course before attending any of the more specialised full day courses. This is to equip you with more general knowledge and skills in preparation for learning about the more in depth topics. Professionals can play a crucial part in determining whether clients change or maintain their problem behaviour. Engaging and building service user’s motivation for change is one of the key challenges workers face. Motivational Interviewing is a collaborative, highly effective, evidence based and deeply client centred approach aimed at helping people achieve positive behaviour change. This course will present the opportunity to enhance existing knowledge and skills as well as provide a comprehensive introduction to those with little or no experience of Motivational Interviewing.

This session focuses on the challenges of working in sheltered housing schemes, recognising the how working with people can impact upon your welfare. It will consider the concepts of emotional labour, resilience, burnout and coping. You will have the opportunity to consider how reflective practice can make a positive contribution to your personal resilience.

The session is aimed at both Sheltered Scheme Managers and Team Managers; the sessions are arranged so that managers and their immediate line reports are on separate sessions.

This practical workshop series offers an opportunity to begin developing a simple to-do list system to help manage competing priorities in challenging and busy work settings. We will use an adaptation of the Bullet Journal1,  a notebook based system, to explore the latest thinking on effective systems and habits which support focus and work-life balance.

Code: BH/17/219 Safer Lifting & Handling of Loads (EVENT FULL)

This course will help you to identify any manual handling issues within your area of work. You will be shown the correct way to move, lift and carry loads in order to reduce your risk of injury.  
 
The course will show you how to carry out a risk assessment for load handling activities and teach you about the anatomy of the body and the mechanics of the back and spine, with a practical session to suit the delegates.
 
Duration: 1 x half day session
