Code: BH/19/0228 Adolescent to parent abuse

  • Adolescent to Parent Abuse (APA) is a ‘Pattern of aggressive, abusive and violent behaviours across a prolonged period of time’.  APA ‘creates an environment where parents live in fear of their child and often curtails their own behaviour to avoid conflict’.

    Parents reported their children have:

Kicked holes in doors, walls & furniture.
Made threats to kill themselves or other family members.
Used weapons as a way of getting their own way.
    Destroyed property.
Physically attacked family members causing injury.
This one-day awareness training will offer the opportunity to globally consider parents/carers/grandparents impacted by violence and abuse from their child. It will offer space to consider the difference between adolescent to parent abuse and ‘normal’ teenage behaviour, discuss case studies and look at strategies used to support families impacted

Code: BH/19/0217 Families, Children & Learning Staff Engagement Sessions (EVENT FULL)

These short sessions, lasting approximately 1.5 hours each, will be run by various members of the Families, Children & Learning Directorate Management Team (FCL DMT).

They will provide an opportunity for everyone to come together in small informal groups, to think about the work we currently do and consider how we can move forward as one directorate to deliver not just good, but great services for all our customers.

Each session will open with a showing of the short Annual Report video and, with local elections fast approaching, we will take the opportunity to discuss what we think is important for newly elected Councillors to know about our services, our service users and our working partnerships. The sessions will conclude with an opportunity for Questions & Answers.
