Code: BH/20/1237 BHSCP - Trauma Informed Approaches Day 2 (EVENT FULL)

These on line sessions are aimed at improving staff awareness and practice by enhancing thier understanding of how Trauma and early adverse experiences can impact on how children and families will interact with safeguarding professionals.

The sessions will be facilitated by Chrissy Bulling (Lead Practitioner) and Kristie Hickle (Sussex University).

They will be made up of four 90mins sessions, with group work and work to do between sessions.

Code: BH/20/1278 First Aid at Work 2 Day Recertification (very important: please see eligibility information within course details before requesting a place) (EVENT FULL)

This 2 day recertification course is specifically for qualified First Aiders who currently hold a current ‘in date’ 3 year First Aid at Work Certificate nearing expiry who need to renew their qualification for a further 3 years and refresh their knowledge and skills.

This is not the 12 month annual refresher event, please ensure you are accessing the correct event.

The programme has been amended due to the Covid-19 outbreak and infection prevention control measures and special instructions for attending this course are detailed below in the additional information. Please ensure these are read and understood before applying and attending the programme. Delegates can also request a full copy of the risk assessments that cover this training course

Eligibility – You can only attend this course if -

You are a council employee

You are a qualified First Aider and have previously attended the 3 day First Aid at Work Course and
Your current certificate will still be in date at the time of the course BUT is due to expire in following 6 months or has not expired by more than 30 days.
The Health & Safety Executive (HSE) confirmed in March that an extension to first aid certificates expiring on or after the 16 March are valid until the 30th September 2020

You can’t attend this course if -

If you currently hold an Emergency First Aid at Work certificate, you cannot top this up to a full First Aid at Work certificate by undertaking this course.

It is strongly recommended that you book your space on this course between 3 and 6 months prior to your First Aid at Work Certificate expiring.

NB: Suitable clothing taking some physical activity into account should be worn.

This basic awareness course is for Independence & Wellbeing Support Workers and will give participants’ skills and knowledge to carry out moving and handling of adults.

The training has been amended due to the Covid-19 outbreak and infection prevention control measures and special instructions for attending this course are detailed below in the additional information. Please ensure these are read and understood before applying and attending the programme. Delegates can also request a full copy of the risk assessments that cover this training course.

It will be delivered using social distancing and will be observation only.

Participants are requested to arrive no more than five minutes prior to their session, to allow time for the previous participants to exit Montague House. The main reception is currently closed, so entry to Montague House for delegates will be at the back entrance of the training room, via Somerset Street, where you will find a wooden gate that will be open for entry to the training room.

Code: BH/20/0811 Self Neglect - Basic Awareness for Customer Facing Staff (EVENT FULL)

This half day course introduces self neglect as part of the Sussex Safeguarding Adults Policy and Procedures and the multiagency approach to supporting people who self neglect. It is aimed at people requiring a knowledge of self neglect, its signs and causes and ways to positively engage.

This half day course is primarily for staff in customer facing roles in adult social care and council services and who may come across adults who are believed to be self neglecting and putting themselves at risk of harm.

 
Participants will have an opportunity to consider examples and to meet with colleagues from other disciplines to help develop an understanding of different approaches to working with this complex issue.

Code: BH/20/1348 Staying Focused with the Bullet Journal (Microsoft Teams) (EVENT FULL)

This practical 1 day workshop and follow up e-learning module offers social workers and social care staff an opportunity to begin developing a reflective to-do list system to help manage competing priorities in challenging and busy social care settings. It is suitable for those carrying caseloads, supervisors and managers and also considers the role of Bullet Journalling in supporting critical thinking and safeguarding. The course is taught using a typical social work caseload as an example. We will use an adaptation of the Bullet Journal, a notebook based system, to explore the latest thinking on effective systems and habits which support focus and work-life balance. The workshop day will include live MS Teams Teaching, some self-guided learning exercises using a dedicated course website for part of the day, and individual support to set up your personalised journal in a 1:1 MS Teams Call.

Part 2 - Staying Focused Follow Up e-learning - Approximately one month after the workshop, participants will be emailed follow-up supporting resources and a link to access Part 2 of the course, 'Staying Focused e-learning module - Monthly Migration and Reflection'. This module will take approximately 2 hours to complete and involves working on your live Bullet Journal to move into the new month, guided by video lessons.
