Confidence to facilitate is a key skill as a manager. Facilitation can underpin many other managerial skills, and provide managers with a range of approaches & analytical tools that can assist meetings and facilitated discussions, including problem solving.

This course is aimed to provide you with an introduction to facilitation skills.  This is not a knowledge based programme, but an interactive, participative & experiential approach.  The course is intended to challenge your thinking about facilitation, & provide you with an opportunity to practice the skills of a facilitator.  Facilitation Skills is a highly interactive 2 day course that will help you to design and manage processes that will ensure successful outcomes, and to gain the commitment of all those involved.

 

The course is a mix of input, individual & group activities, with access to online resources & research.

Code: BH/18/1632 Positive Behaviour Support (3 day course) (EVENT FULL)

The positive behaviour support course aims to equip staff, parents and carers with the skills and knowledge to support adults with learning disabilities whose behaviour can challenge. This course is for Learning Disability Services who provide support to individuals who display high risk challenging behaviours.

This is an accredited course and your attendance is required on 3 days during a 4 week period.  Days 1,2 & 3 must be completed in order. 

The assessment and intervention workbook involves work between each day and must be completed appropriate to the needs of the individual that has been focused on for a certificate to be awarded. This course contains a multiple choice theory test on day 3 and presentations to the rest of the group.

If for any reason a delegate misses a day then they should attend the next available course to complete the day(s) missed within a 6 month period.

Please note: Priority places will be allocated to services who are signed up to the PBS Sussex model or services who support individuals who display the most complex, high risk challenging behaviours.

Places on this course are not allocated automatically.  To be considered for this course you need to add your reasons in the special requirements box as to why you need to attend this training course.  This information will be used in determining whether you get a place or not.

Code: BH/18/1779 PROACT-SCIPr-UK® Introduction and Foundation Refresher for children's residential & outreach staff

PROACT-SCIPr-UK is an organisational approach to understanding behaviour and supporting individuals to manage their own behaviour using Positive Behaviour Support.

This one day training is an annual refresher of both the Introduction and Foundation training. All participants should have already attended the original training.  

During the course we will include:

  • philosophy of PROACT-SCIPr-UK ®
  • understanding behaviour
  • beliefs, values and attitudes
  • the whole approach
  • understanding the individual
  • reaction to crisis
  • calming techniques
  • legal issues and risk assessment
  • health & safety around physical interventions taught

Audit based physical interventions:

The course includes a short written test to assess participants' understanding of course content and an assessment of the physical interventions taught during the course.

This one day course is designed to increase staff awareness of the possible injuries to themselves and to enable them to carry out transfer operations safely. The course includes informal discussions and practice in transfer techniques.
Numbers on the course are strictly limited to allow time for all participants to practice the various transfer techniques and use of the transfer aids.

Participants will receive an attendance certificate to show that they have received training under the Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992
.

A new 30 credit module at University of Sussex for new and experienced managers in Social Work Teams wanting to develop and demonstrate practice as laid out in Practice Supervisor and Practice Leader Knowledge and Skills Statements.

This module aims to develop skills in reflective supervision as a vehicle for ensuring best practice and leading change in Social Work, social care, health and community settings for service users of all ages.
