Code: BH/19/1152 Adults CPD Module: Social Work in Multidisciplinary Settings

This module will explore social work practice in private, voluntary, independent or health-based settings working with complex issues such as mental health, substance misuse and/or homelessness, either with children and young people, or with adults. Students will consider issues of social work professional identity, as well as the skills and knowledge that social workers use in these settings and the value bases applicable to such work. The module will also enable students to update their knowledge regarding the legal and policy framework and implications for their practice.

The module is delivered over 5 days using a range of methods including presentations, structured discussions and exercises designed to draw on participants practice and personal experience.  Small groups of students will be encouraged to share their perspectives, critique the concepts which are presented to them and apply learning to their own specialist social work context.

The aim is for students to:

  • Explore what it means to be a qualified social worker practicing in either a healthcare setting, or in a non-statutory agency, as part of a multidisciplinary team. 
  • Enable students to critically reflect upon the application of social work theory, knowledge, values and skills to practice in their setting.
  • Update students’ knowledge and critical understanding of relevant law and policy, including safeguarding.

Code: BH/19/0608 Emergency First Aid - Adult Social Care

The course, for Adult Social Care Staff, enables first aiders to give emergency first aid to someone who is injured or becomes ill. It includes both theory and practical sessions and is designed to boost confidence. There is no final exam however delegates are assessed throughout the course and certificates, valid for three years, are issued to those who have reached the required standard.

Each delegate will be provided with a first aid manual.

Code: BH/19/0590 First Aid at Work (3 day) - for council employees and schools ONLY

This course is for those that will be acting as lead first aiders and will provide candidates with a recognised first aid at work qualification.

Upon completion of the course, First Aiders will be able to take control and provide assistance in an emergency situation at their workplace Candidates will be able to respond to an accident or illness promptly, effectively and safely.

Topics covered include: resuscitation and CPR, dealing with wounds, bleeding, burns, scalds, heart conditions and minor injuries.

Attendees will undertake a practical and written assessment on the final day of the course. On successful completion, you will be a recognised First Aider for 3 years; you are not required to attend the one day emergency first aid training as well.

NB: Suitable clothing taking some physical activity into account should be worn.

A practical course teaching how to administer medicines (in original packs and blister packs) in a systematic way to reduce the chance of errors. It covers the care certificate and CQC requirements for medication training.

The course includes a competence test (simulated medicines rounds) with a follow-on assessment if learners fail this.
