This course is mandatory for newly qualified social workers and is also suitable for social workers, social work resource officers and other Children’s Services practitioners working with children in care.

Social work skills in effective care planning are fundamental to securing positive outcomes for children and young people. This one day course aims to provide a positive learning experience to support participants with this key task.

Priority booking is being given to Newly Qualified Social Workers as this course is mandatory for their Assessed and Supported Year in Employment.

You are welcome to book onto this date, but you will only receive confirmation of a place if there is capacity. You will be notified by email if you have been successful.

This course will run for non-ASYEs on 25th January 2018.

The course, for Adult Social Care Staff, enables first aiders to give emergency first aid to someone who is injured or becomes ill. It includes both theory and practical sessions and is designed to boost confidence. There is no final exam however delegates are assessed throughout the course and certificates, valid for three years, are issued to those who have reached the required standard.

Each delegate will be provided with a first aid manual.

People in receipt of social care have the same rights to live and also die with dignity as anyone else.  This course is for care workers supporting people helping them to live well nearing the end of life with any end stage illness in any setting.  It will consider how to provide personalised, culturally appropriate support and the practical skills to offer this.

This course will also look at the NHS South East Coast Do Not Attempt CPR (DNACPR) principles, multi agency forms and local adult social care guidance.

This course is mandatory for those working with children from birth to five years.

It is also suitable for those working with children from birth to puberty, including foster carers, schools and CVS practitioners.

Early Years staff should attend the course listed in the CEYC training guide.

This two day course and certification is dependent upon successful continuous assessment of the delegate. There is no final examination. Participants must attend both days to achieve the Certificate in Paediatric First Aid, a recognised qualification valid for three years.

This half day workshop emphasises the importance of manager support for equality and diversity within the council in service delivery and staff management. It covers the Equality Act 2010, with a focus on the demographic make-up of the city and BHCC recruitment, selection, retention and management of staff. The workshop will also look at the impact and potential consequences of a breach of the Act for individuals, managers and the council’s reputation.

This 3-hour interactive course is for private and independent care homes/domiciliary carers.  The course will look at the critical aspects for medicines management using a practical approach. The course is delivered by pharmacists and technicians from the local Clinical Commissioning Group who have a wealth of experience in both hospital and the community. The course has been developed locally based on local training needs and links into the Brighton and Hove City Council and Clinical Commissioning Group medicines management policies.

This course (over 2 half days) explores the principles that underpin Restorative Practice, specifically, Restorative Parenting. Restorative Parenting can be seen as therapeutic re-parenting through positive behaviour management. The course aims to support foster carers to have another approach to working with challenging behaviour to try to avoid placement breakdown, and the criminalisation of looked-after young people.

Restorative parenting works with the young person to find a solution to conflict, and to encourage them to take responsibility for their choices.
