This module offers learning and further professional development opportunities for health, social work and social care professionals who work with older people. The module enables students to analyse and critically reflect upon the dilemmas within their own work-based contexts, alongside colleagues undertaking similar or related roles. The teaching will include current law and policy, theoretical perspectives, good practice and research findings in the field of practice with older people, with a focus upon critical application to own practice and agency context. A reflective, analytic and evaluative approach will be central to learning.

To prevent pressure damage wherever possible and to raise awareness and recognition of pressure and moisture related skin damage. To highlight the importance of good skin care, skin observation, repositioning and moisture management for patients who are immobile. Training will be provided by a nurse specialist from the Tissue Viability service from Sussex Community NHS Trust.

This course will help services to meet the quality requirements of the Essential Standards of Quality and Safety. It will also support staff to understand the importance of their own role in working with the CQC as well as the role of managers and other staff.
The course will cover the role of the Care Quality Commission and their methods of working, Essential Standards of Quality and Safety, CQC Regulations and Review methods, Quality Risk Profiles and Notifications and the importance of the provider’s own Quality Assessments. It will look at a variety of quality assurance methods and how these methods of feedback should be used to assist quality improvement.

This course will support customer facing staff to identify strategies to reduce the likelihood of aggression and violence and to respond appropriately when presented with aggression, either face to face or over the phone. The emphasis of this course is to reduce aggression and the course does not cover physical techniques.

This course aims to assist participants' understanding of the ways that the principles of dignity, choice, control and empowerment can run through the provision of all aspects of care and procedures.

This course will assist service providers to stay at the forefront of providing services in line with the current commissioning dignity priority.

Working with risk and supporting service users to live their chosen lifestyles can feel difficult. Getting the balance right in respecting individual rights whilst also fulfilling our duty of care is important. 

This course will look at the principles of person centred risk and care and will help people support and promote good risk assessment and care planning.  The course will also look at how to work with restrictive practices procedures to ensure that people are not unnecessarily restricted in our desire to manage risks.

This course is for frontline staff including those new to adult social care.
