The latest Government Guidance is being followed to ensure that face to face training is delivered in the safest possible way to reduce the risk of catching and spreading COVID-19 .  The attached COVID-19 Risk Assessment Guidance for Training Participants sets out the arrangements and what you are required to do when attending the training course. Please ensure these are read and understood before applying and attending the course.

This course is aimed at staff involved in the manual handling of adults, including the use of hoists and other support equipment, who have completed the Safer People Handling practical training session within the last 12 months.

Important Eligibility Applies - if you last completed the Safer People Handling practical session training outside of the last 12 month period (30 days beyond this, absolute maximum is acceptable) or if you have not completed training in this area before please do not book onto this refresher course, you must complete the safer people handling basic awareness course.

It is a National/local directive that staff refresh and update their knowledge and skills regularly. This half-day course will update staff on the possible injuries to themselves and enable them to carry out transfer operations safely.

Code: BH/22/0761 Safer People Handling Risk Assessor Refresher

The Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992 require employers to make suitable and sufficient assessments of all manual handling operations and to take appropriate steps to reduce the risk of injury to the lowest level reasonably practicable. This course will provide assessors with an annual update on the information and skills to undertake assessments of manual handling needs.

This course is for managers and senior staff who will be carrying out manual handling assessments and is open to all adult social care staff across the council and the Independent Voluntary Sector.  

Due to the restrictions on training with regards to Covid-19, the restrictions for attending this course have changed to take account that not all staff may have been able to attend training to refresh within the past 2 years, so for those staff who have completed the Safer People Handling Risk Assessor refresher course or the full course ('safer people handling risk assessor') within the last 2 years can request a place on this course.  The timings of this course has moved from a ½ day course, and allocated 1.5 hour time slots to a whole day course – 09.30am – 4.30pm.  This will allow delegates to have an in-depth update, and give delegates time and space to discuss their challenges.  There is no pre-coursework for this course.

Participants must ensure they wear appropriate clothing and flat, comfortable footwear that covers the whole of the foot as you will be actively participating in safer people handling techniques. Open-toed shoes and sandals are not acceptable and you maybe turned away due to health and safety reasons which will then incur a charge.

If you are unable to participate in the practical session you will only receive a certificate of attendance, not a full certificate which assesses your competency and you will have to attend a refresher session at a later date when you are fit and well to have your competency assessed.
