Intersectionality is a framework for understanding how aspects of a person's social and political identities combine to create different types of discrimination and privilege. 

That is people can often be disadvantaged by multiple sources of oppression: these could include their race, class, gender identity, sexual orientation, religion, and many other identity markers.
