Overview

This course brings together staff working in adult mental health services with children’s service’s staff to explore the way parental mental health difficulties can impact on the lives of children and young people. The session explores how they can work together to create better outcomes for families.


The aim is to promote effective working together across agencies when working with families where a parent or carer has a mental health problem.

Learning outcomes

By the end of this course you will be able to:



  • gain understanding of the roles of professionals in other specialist area, what they do & what they provide

  • consider ways in which parental mental ill health and parenting capacity interact

  • understand the potential effects of mental health difficulties for children

  • to explore how to plan and undertake assessments & interventions in families where a parent or young person has a mental health difficulty

Additional information

There is very limited parking at the venue, although there is parking on the road nearby. While no lunch is supplied, there is use of a microwave, and there is a small shop about five minutes walk.

At present the LSCB are providing tea and coffee, on full day training presentations.
