Brighton & Hove is committed to meeting the needs of those harmed by crime and conflict, by ensuring safe, secure and effective restorative practices are embedded throughout the city. This is the pledge made by the city's Community Safety Partnership in 2015.

This training covers the full range of skills outlined in the core 2013 National Occupational Standards for Restorative Practice.

This course was accredited by the Restorative Justice Council in March 2018 to enable learners to facilitate restorative conferences/meetings at the standard required by the Criminal Justice System.

Learning outcomes
The learning outcomes are:

  1. An introduction to the concepts and philosophy of restorative practice

  2. Understanding of informal and formal restorative processes, including restorative conferences, face-to-face mediation and Family Group Conferencing

  3. Knowledge of relevant national standards, including the RJC Practitioner Competency Framework, the RJC Principles of Restorative Practice, the RJC Practitioner Code of Practice and the National Occupational Standards for Restorative Practice (Skills for Justice)

  4. Experience of practise and observation of facilitation skills – this will include peer and trainer assessment

  5. An introduction to Brighton & Hove’s Restorative City pledge and the city’s Restorative Champions Network.

Please review the National Operating Standards.  This is for information only at this stage.  Don’t worry – you only need familiarise themselves with the Standards as you are required to self-assess your progress against them as part of the training course assessment.
