Overview

This course aims to train delegates to be an initial point of contact in taking immediate action to deal with a casualty at work.


Candidates will be provided with the knowledge and skills required to preserve a life until more qualified personnel arrive to take over. If however, you are taking a lead in first aid in your workplace the three day First Aid at Work course may be more appropriate for you.


NB: Suitable clothing taking some physical activity into account should be worn.

Learning outcomes
By the end of the course you will:

   • recognise and identify the essential skills required to carry out emergency
     first
aid to save a life until someone more qualified arrives to take over
   • know how to use first aid to resuscitate a person
   • know how to treat an unconscious casualty
   • know how to communicate in an emergency situation
Additional information
This course is for you if you are employed by Brighton and Hove City Council or in Brighton and Hove Schools and:
 
   • you have been designated as an Appointed First Aider for your area of work
   • you are confident and can remain calm in an emergency situation
   • you require your three yearly refresher training

Please note: there are specific courses for staff that work in Adult Social Care or Children Services
