Overview
Day in, day out, practitioners struggle to function in work with children, families and adults that constantly presents heart wrenching, emotional challenges. Secondary trauma is the emotional impact of dealing with trauma on those in helping professions. Secondary trauma differs from stress or burnout as it involves the emotional fallout of bearing witness to the pain of others. It is an occupational hazard of helping.

This 60 minute webinar will be presented by Lori Goossen, Principal Social Worker and Safeguarding and Quality Assurance at Medway Children’s Social Care and Early Help.

Learning outcomes
This session aims to provide practitioners and managers with the knowledge they need to identify and mitigate their risk from secondary trauma as a result of their work in the context of Covid-19.

In addition, we will explore compassion satisfaction- the reasons we continue to do this work despite the impact and how teams and organisations can support their staff to do this work effectively.
