Health and Safety for Site Managers & Caretakers in Schools (Microsoft Teams)
This course is delivered by colleagues from the Health and Safety Team, the Premises Team and Education Property Management Team and is strongly recommended for School Caretakers and Site Managers working in Brighton and Hove Schools.
This training will provide essential information for Caretakers and Site Managers, on how to successfully manage the health and safety risks in schools. Topics covered will include:
- hazard identification through workplace inspections
- risk assessment
- statutory inspections
- record keeping
- reporting of incidents and near misses
- COSHH overview
- tools and equipment
- contractor management
- lone working
Learning outcomes - by the end of the course you will:
- understand your role and areas of responsibility in relation to health and safety management
- know the key risks associated with your role and how to manage them
- understand the importance of workplace and statutory inspections and identifying hazards/issues and taking action
- know how to access health and safety training, guidance and support
This course is for you if:
- you are a Brighton and Hove School Site Manager or Caretaker
- you manage, or assist in the management of health and safety at a school
IMPORTANT:
This course has been adapted to be delivered virtually using Microsoft Teams and some pre-course reading is required.
Please read the attached guidance before attending the training. You may find it useful to print or save copies of the attached Inspection checklists and Maintenance and Service Schedule.
You will receive an email with the calendar link for the session nearer the time.
We hope you can access the training with no technical difficulties. Your experience with Microsoft Teams will differ depending on the device you are using.
If you have Windows 10, you shouldn’t have any difficulties.
With Windows 7, you should use Teams on the web using the Chrome web browser on your laptop. Go to https://office.com/ and log in with your usual council login details.
If you're using Citrix on a personal device, you should use the web version of Teams outside of Citrix, as using Teams directly within Citrix will give you limited access.
This information is helpful if you are new to using Teams.
If you have Teams:
Open Outlook calendar meeting > click Join
Select your device camera, and microphone settings and click Join
Wait for the meeting organizer to let you in
If you don’t have Teams:
Open Outlook calendar meeting
Click on the “Join Microsoft Teams Meeting” link
You will see “Download the windows app” or “Join on the web instead”.
