CPD Module - Attachment Theory Informed Practice Across the Lifespan

This module is open to Social Work practitioners in HASC and FLC. Register your interest in this 20 Credit, Masters Level module by requesting a place by the 24th June 2022. 

STAFF IN FCL ONLY: To apply for this module you must have already completed the BHCC ‘Attachment Aware’ training course. Please 'request a place' and download the FCL Social Work CPD Funding Application Pack from Attached Documents, complete this and return to by the 24th June 2022. 

This standalone module aims to equip social workers in all fields, and professionals within related health and social care services, with an in-depth critical awareness of contemporary attachment theory and research. It is designed to inform their practice with vulnerable groups across the lifespan particularly when thinking about longer-term intervention work and trauma-informed approaches. This module will also consider developments within neuroscience, developmental trauma and related theories of attachment such as mentalisation

Learning outcomes
This module enables practitioners to develop in-depth knowledge and critical awareness of attachment theory and related research with a particular focus on the Dynamic-Maturational Model (DMM) of attachment. Practitioners will begin to apply this research, knowledge and theory to their practice and is taught through lectures, seminars, group work and formative assessments.

4000 word essay which addresses all of the module learning outcomes and examines critically an aspect of attachment theory.

Students can focus, for example, on child development, adolescence, mental health, older people, or another topic as agreed with the module co-ordinator.


4000 word practice commentary in which students address all learning outcomes via a theoretical analysis and practice formulation in respect of a service user/client they are working with.
Additional information
A learner contract applies to this module. The contract states that you may be asked to repay course fees if you do not complete the module or if you cease employment with the Council within one year of completing the module. You must sign the contract in order to be allocated a place on the module.

Please complete and return the learner contract, along with the attached university application form, to by 30th July 2022 to register for the module

STAFF IN FCL: Upon completion of this module you will be required to join the Community of Practice for Attachment.

You can register for this module as a stand alone module or you may wish to register for a PGCert, PGDip, MSc in Advanced Social Work Practice at Brighton University and build credits/modules to work towards this. More details in the attached course flyer. NB credits gained at Sussex University cannot be used towards this.
