This course is practically based and enables managers (of staff) to competently undertake disciplinary investigations and both present and chair in hearings. It is a safe environment to practise skills in a mock hearing setting.

Learning outcomes

By the end of this course you will be able to:

  • understand the significance of the disciplinary process and be confident that you have adhered to Policy and ACAS guidelines

  • recognise when a matter can be dealt with informally and when the formal process should be instigated

  • confidently and competently deal with formal disciplinary processes, through interviewing staff, preparing and presenting cases and chairing disciplinary hearings.

  • have the opportunity to participate in a mock hearing

  • recognise and develop transferrable skills to other formal processes

  • be confident of the risks in decision making and be confident in defending outcomes if challenged at an Employment Tribunal.

Additional information

Please note that this training is only for those in managerial roles and you will be expected to act as both investigating and hearing managers in formal HR processes when the training is completed.
