Final, self-directed module of MA programme.
This is a 60 credit postgraduate level module for practitioners of social work, social care, health and education wishing to complete a Masters award in one of three Pathways: (i) Social Work Practice Education, (ii) Effective Practice in Social Work and Social Care, or (iii) Leadership and Management in Social Work and Social Care.
This student-directed module is designed for practitioners who have already earned a substantial number of postgraduate credits. It offers an opportunity for you to critically explore a particular issue related to your professional field in depth with a view to developing a leading role in your profession.

Candidates completing this 60 credit module will gain the Masters (MA) in Social Work in their chosen pathway.
You will be appointed a Supervisor with whom you will draw up a plan of study. You will have three supervision sessions with your Supervisor.
Depending on cohort numbers, small group workshops will help you in the initial selection of your dissertation topic, which will be the subject of your critical inquiry for which you will draft a proposal for your research and analysis (on which you will receive formative feedback).
You will also be expected to attend lectures and workshops on research methodology provided by the Department of Social Work and Social Care.

Must have completed postgraduate PGDip in Social Work.
Must be a Manager of a Social Work Team/Pod in Children's Services.
