Overview

The Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992 require employers to make suitable and sufficient assessments of all manual handling operations and to take appropriate steps to reduce the risk of injury to the lowest level reasonably practicable. This course will provide assessors with the necessary information and skills to undertake assessments of manual handling needs.

This course is for managers and senior staff who will be carrying out manual handling assessments, and who have not completed either this course or the shorter refresher course ('Safer People Handling Risk Assessor Refresher') within the last 2 years.

Participants will receive an attendance certificate to show that they have received training under the Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992.

The programme has been amended due to the Covid-19 outbreak and infection prevention control measures and special instructions for attending this course are detailed in the attached document. Please ensure these are read and understood before applying and attending the programme. Delegates can also request a full copy of the risk assessments that cover this training course.

Please note: - this course is open to adult social care staff across the council as well as staff across the Independent Voluntary Sector. Whilst the course is delivered in a covid secure way, please consider with your manager whether it is essential for you to attend as the delegates may be a mix of staff from different workplaces. Where possible, if you are able to attend with another member of staff in your organisation you will be placed together.

Due to Covid-19 training restrictions this course will run differently.

This course will run over 3 consecutive days as follows: -

• Day 2 = Face-to-Face - practical session – 2 hours per 3 delegates - Manual Handling Training Room, Montague House
• Day 3 = Half day 09.30am - 12.30pm – Virtual online Teams session - indepth session on documentation and problem solving.

You must attend all 3 sessions.

The practical training session will take place in the manual handling training room at Montague House with a maximum of 3 delegates and will last for 2 hours. The allocated training session times are: -

11.45am – 1.45pm
2.00pm – 4.00pm.
