What is IOSH Managing Safely and who is this course for?


This course is accredited by IOSH (The Institution of Occupational Safety and Health) and will provide delegates with an opportunity to achieve a nationally recognised, health and safety qualification.

This training is recommended for managers, supervisors and team leaders who wish to gain confidence and a  deeper understanding of their health and safety responsibilities and successful health and safety management. This course will help delegates to lead by good example, to effectively manage the health, safety and wellbeing of their team and embed a positive and safe culture in the workplace. 
 

What does this course cover?

This course covers responsibilites, identifying hazards, assessment and control of risks, incident and accident investigation and measuring performance.

How will the course be delivered and assessed?

This training course will be delivered virtually via Zoom in 4 sessions, between 09.30-15.30 on days 1, 2 & 3 and between 09.30 and 12.30 on day 4. Delegates must be able to attend all sessions and undertake a 45 minute knowledge based test  consisting of multi-format questions on the final day. Delegates will also be required to complete a skill-based, practical risk assessment carried out in their workplace

 
Priority for places is given to BHCC staff and Schools staff but a limited number of places are available to external people. 

IMPORTANT: Please ensure that you are able to undertake this course from a suitable and quiet,work area/room. You are also advised to check in advance that you have access to Zoom and have audio and visual functionality on your computer, as you will need to be seen and heard by the trainer.

Learning outcomes
By the end of the course you will be able to:

   • understand why it is important to manage safely

   • define the terms ‘risk’ and ‘risk assessment’ and understand how risk assessments are carried out
   • understand how Criminal and Civil law relate to health and safety
   • describe appropriate control measures for common workplace hazards
   • describe how accident and incident investigations should be carried out to Identify root causes
   • explain how health and safety is measured and describe the main elements of a health and
     safety management system

Workbooks will be sent to delegates before the course and you will be contacted nearer the time to check the best address for these to be sent to. The workbooks will be used during the training and there is no requirement for delegates to read them prior to the course.
