This half day refresher course will help carers and adopters explore and understand why the theory of attachment is so important and how the quality of the attachment the child/young person has experienced impacts on the placement.

There will also be an opportunity to share and reflect on the experiences of the carers who attend.

Learning outcomes
By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • discuss methods of communicating with children & young people that include verbal and non-verbal communication

  • describe child development and how attachment and trauma impacts on their development

  • identify the vulnerable child & young person’s particular needs when making judgements about their safety and well being, and increase confidence in reporting concerns

  • interpret how a secure base approach can improve the child’s developmental outcomes

  • prepare to apply secure base approaches with children and young people
