This is a two day course will be delivered via Microsoft Teams. It will help carers and adopters explore and understand why the theory of attachment is so important and how the quality of the attachment the child/young person has experienced impacts on the placement.

There will also be an opportunity to share and reflect on the experiences of the carers who attend.

This second of the core courses, is aimed specifically at increasing the understanding, of all categories of abuse, around making assessments, and making appropriate quality referrals, thus preventing further harm/abuse. It will increase your knowledge of how agencies investigate jointly, and provide a better awareness of the purpose of a child protection investigation, how it can be conducted and how this may vary dependant of the type of harm. It should also help clarify your role as an individual and that of the other professionals involved. It is recommended that this training is undertaken by anyone new to a safeguarding role, and that it is completed in conjunction with the other core programme modules, prior to undertaking any specialised course.

This training is provided by Brighton & Hove Safeguarding Children Partnership (BHSCP)

These on line sessions are aimed at improving staff awareness and practice by enhancing thier understanding of how Trauma and early adverse experiences can impact on how children and families will interact with safeguarding professionals.

The sessions will be facilitated by Chrissy Bulling (Lead Practitioner) and Kristie Hickle (Sussex University).

They will be made up of four 90mins sessions, with group work and work to do between sessions.

Due to the Coronavirus pandemic the popular Communicating with Impact workshops will be delivered remotely instead of face to face for the rest of 2020.

This has given us the opportunity to review its success and identify different ways to deliver the training, as well as the further embedding of the learning.  We have commissioned 6 pilot remote sessions to support your continual development as a manager. 

Please note that this learning consists of pre course work (approximately 30mins), two, (2 hour) online workshops, 2 weeks apart.   Please ensure that you are available to attend both sessions.

Code: BH/20/0390 First Aid at Work 2 Day Recertification (very important: please see eligibility information within course details before requesting a place)

This 2 day recertification course is specifically for qualified First Aiders who currently hold a current ‘in date’ 3 year First Aid at Work Certificate nearing expiry who need to renew their qualification for a further 3 years and refresh their knowledge and skills.

This is not the 12 month annual refresher event, please ensure you are accessing the correct event.

Eligibility – You can only attend this course if -
You are a council employee or work in Brighton and Hove City Schools
You are a qualified First Aider and have previously attended the 3 day First Aid at Work Course and
your current certificate will still be in date at the time of the course BUT is due to expire in the following 6 months or has not expired by more than 30 days or you meet the HSE criteria for certificate extensions during COVID-19 

COVID-19 - extensions to certificates

The Health & Safety Executive (HSE) has confirmed an extension to first aid certificates expiring on or after the 16 March until the 31st October or for 6 months whichever is the latest. All certificates must be renewed by 31 March 2021.
 
You can’t attend this course if -

If you currently hold an Emergency First Aid at Work certificate, you cannot top this up to a full First Aid at Work certificate by undertaking this course.

It is strongly recommended that you book your space on this course between 3 and 6 months prior to your First Aid at Work Certificate expiring.

NB: Suitable clothing taking some physical activity into account should be worn.

Code: BH/20/1279 Safeguarding Adults: Being Caused to Undertake a Safeguarding Enquiry

This course is for people working in Adult Social Care who may be “caused to” carry out a Section 42 Safeguarding Enquiry by the Local Authority. This includes all Adult Provider Services in the local authority & the Private and Voluntary sector. It is also relevant to others who may be “caused to” enquire for example, Occupational Therapists and Care Managers who work for the Local Authority.

This is a virtual, interactive small group course where your questions and input are welcome.

Our aim is to learn together, share our knowledge and skills to ensure that we feel equipped to look into a situation where someone may have experienced abuse or neglect. To plan what we need to do to reduce risks in our service and help the person at the centre of the enquiry to understand what happened and what steps we have taken in order that they have the outcome they hope for.

This course looks at:

·         your role and responsibilities in relation to undertaking Safeguarding Enquiries at the request of the Local Authority. We will look at the nature of requests from the Local Authority Causing you to Enquire and what guidance you can expect to receive from the Local Authority. 

·         Exploring good practice in relation to involving the person (& or their representative) who may have experienced abuse or neglect, ensuring that their views, wishes and outcomes are at the centre of the Enquiry.

·         We will identify and discuss how to apply good practice principles in relation to Making Safeguarding Personal, Professional Curiosity and the six principles of:  Empowerment, Protection, Prevention, Participation, Partnership and Accountability.

·         Planning and conducting an enquiry taking into account the Nature, Scope and Purpose of the Enquiry which the Social Worker/Lead Enquiry Officer will have outlined.

·         You will be reminded of your responsibilities if you are an Employer in relation to DBS reporting and identifying of People working in a position of trust (PIPOT)

·         You will have the opportunity to think through how you will structure the Summary of your Enquiry so that this is accessible to those who will read it.

• records to help keep everyone safer

The training will be participative, with practical examples and exercises to help everyone relate the learning to their fostering.

It will be made up of three 90 minute interactive sessions run over Microsoft Teams.
