This course looks in more detail at the impact of autism on social interaction and communication, both for the person, and also for family, carers and others.

Participants will have the opportunity to hear the first hand experience of autistic people through written accounts and video or presentations.
 
The Care Act re-iterates the govenment's support for the Autism Strategy and the importance of understanding autism as it relates to the person and also the assessment.
 
This course is suitable for staff who have regular contact with adults on the autism spectrum.

The emphasis of this 2 day course is to develop social work skills in understanding the complexity of domestic abuse dynamics, making robust assessments which balance risk and strengths to help formulate a clear analysis around child safety and parental capacity to change.

You will leave day 1 with a personalised learning goal that you will be able to review with the support of the group and facilitators on day 2. Day 2 will also help you to develop skills in safety planning with the whole family to help you make realistic recommendations.

Guest speakers, Veritas Justice, will give an introduction to stalking and overview of what this means for assessment and intervention.

The course, for Adult Social Care Staff, enables first aiders to give emergency first aid to someone who is injured or becomes ill. It includes both theory and practical sessions and is designed to boost confidence. There is no final exam however delegates are assessed throughout the course and certificates, valid for three years, are issued to those who have reached the required standard.

Each delegate will be provided with a first aid manual.

This is the third instalment of our core courses which explores how agencies across the city work together to keep children safe through the Child Protection Conference, and Core Group processes. This includes a presentation by the Youth Advocacy Project which works with children & young people to ensure that their voice is taken into consideration. This course has recently been reviewed and updated by the CPRO (Child Protection Review Officers), in line with their restructured service. It will help you understand the aims, purpose and process of a Child Protection Conference and Core Group and to become a more effective participant in that process.

This training is provided by the Local Safeguarding Children's Board (LSCB)

Brighton & Hove is committed to meeting the needs of those harmed by crime and conflict, by ensuring safe, secure and effective restorative practices are embedded throughout the city.  This is the pledge made by the city's Community Safety Partnership in 2015.

This training is for staff in Health and Adult Social Care Assessment Services including Managers, Social Workers and colleagues involved in safeguarding.  The course supports participants to acquire the  necessary background knowledge and skills to use restorative practices in day to day work. 

This course was accredited by the Restorative Justice Council in March 2018 to enable learners to have a basic understanding of safe and effective restorative practices.

These practical steps offer immediate help to someone having thoughts of suicide and helps you both move forward to connect with more specialised support.

The safeTALK course was developed by LivingWorks in Canada and is delivered worldwide.

This half-day course is for all new staff who have recently joined Brighton & Hove City Council.

The course aims are to welcome new staff to the council, provide an overview of the visions and priorities of the council and give an opportunity to learn about the organisational and political structure.

New staff will have the opportunity to meet and ask questions of the chief executive or a executive director. 

The course will briefly cover areas such as learning and development opportunities, staff travel, health, safety and wellbeing, and equalities and diversity.  It is an effective starting point for new staff to increase their knowledge of the city council and network with other new staff.
