This course is appropriate for all Children’s Services staff, CVS staff, volunteers, support staff and foster carers and offers an introduction to understanding autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and gives attendees a chance to reflect on the common challenges faced by families caring for a child or young person with ASD.

With input from local families, we discuss how the needs and challenges of families change as their child moves through different life stages and how the support needed by families can also change over time.

Code: BH/18/0534 First Aid at Work 2 Day Recertification (very important: please see eligibility information within course details before requesting a place)

This 2 day recertification course is specifically for qualified First Aiders who currently hold a current ‘in date’ 3 year First Aid at Work Certificate nearing expiry who need to renew their qualification for a further 3 years and refresh their knowledge and skills.

This is not the 12 month annual refresher event, please ensure you are accessing the correct event.  

Eligibility – You can only attend this course if

  • You are a qualified First Aider and have previously attended the 3 day First Aid at Work Course and
  • Your current certificate will still be in date at the time of the course BUT is due to expire in following 6 months or has not expired by more than 30 days. 

You can’t attend this course if -

·         If you currently hold an Emergency First Aid at Work certificate, you cannot top this up to a full First Aid at Work certificate by undertaking this course.

It is strongly recommended that you book your space on this course between 3 and 6 months prior to your First Aid at Work Certificate expiring.

NB: Suitable clothing taking some physical activity into account should be worn.

Brighton & Hove is committed to meeting the needs of those harmed by crime and conflict, by ensuring safe, secure and effective restorative practices are embedded throughout the city.  This is the pledge made by the city's Community Safety Partnership in 2015.

This training is for staff in Health and Adult Social Care Assessment Services including Managers, Social Workers and colleagues involved in safeguarding.  The course supports participants to acquire the  necessary background knowledge and skills to use restorative practices in day to day work. 

This course was accredited by the Restorative Justice Council in March 2018 to enable learners to have a basic understanding of safe and effective restorative practices.

Code: BH/18/1359 Safeguarding Adults: Being Caused to Undertake a Safeguarding Enquiry (EVENT FULL)

This course is for Adult Social Care Managers and Senior Staff who may be “caused to” carry out a Section 42 Safeguarding Enquiry. This includes Provider Services in the local authority, private and voluntary sector. It is also relevant to others who may be “caused to” enquire eg. Occupational Therapists and Care Managers who work for BHCC.

This course looks at your role and responsibilities as a senior person in your organisation, and explores good practice in relation to planning and implementing a safeguarding enquiry. It includes recognising what abuse and neglect is, and what you can do to prevent it, as well as clarifying what a safeguarding concern is and applying the 3 key tests. It also looks at safeguarding requirements with reference to legislation and local procedures, including the Care Act and Making Safeguarding Personal.

Please note: This replaces "Safeguarding for Provider Managers". If you have attended this course within the last 2 years, then you don't need to do this again.

This one day course is designed to increase staff awareness of the possible injuries to themselves and to enable them to carry out transfer operations safely. The course includes informal discussions and practice in transfer techniques.
Numbers on the course are strictly limited to allow time for all participants to practice the various transfer techniques and use of the transfer aids.

Participants will receive an attendance certificate to show that they have received training under the Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992
