This course is aimed to provide you with an opportunity to review & practice approaches to dealing with meetings, presentations, briefings and attending committees.  It is aimed at supporting you to develop strategies to help you communicate effectively, put your point across, clearly, persuasively and answer questions confidently even if you haven’t had time to prepare answers.

 

The one day course is a mix of input, individual & group activities, with access to online resources & research.

This course covers the essential elements of food safety to enable you to safely prepare and handle food and to support people with their nutrition and hydration needs.

Course attendees will be given a certificate of attendance. There is a multiple choice assessment at the end of the course which will be marked and given to participants to discuss with their manager upon return to work. The Workforce Development Team will contact the managers of participants who do not pass the assessment.

This course is aimed at staff involved in the manual handling of adults, including the use of hoists and other support equipment, who have completed the Safer People Handling Basic Awareness training course or a Safer People Handling refresher course within the last 12 months. Important Eligibility Applies - if you last completed training outside of the last 12 month period (30 days beyond this, absolute maximum is acceptable) or you have not completed training in this area before please do not book onto this refresher event, you must complete the bascic awareness event.

It is a National/local directive that staff refresh and update their knowledge and skills regularly. This half-day course will update staff on the possible injuries to themselves and enable them to carry out transfer operations safely.

Code: BH/18/1576 Systemic Approaches to Working with Families (2 days) (EVENT FULL)

This two day course will helps those working with children and families to work in a more holistic manner and understand that family members are inextricably linked and the actions of one always have an impact on the actions of others. Systemic thinking holds at its heart the importance of understanding people, their thoughts, feelings and behaviours within the context of the relationships and the environment they are part of.

You will be encouraged to build on the skills they have already, enabling them to hold the whole family in mind when working with a child or young person.

Brighton and Hove have had a Functional Family Therapy Team (FFT) for the past 9 years. FFT is an evidence based intervention that works with high risk adolescents and their families. The team work with young people who are at risk of becoming LAC or going into custody. The second half day of the training will explore how the model works and how social workers can work in partnership with the FFT therapists, by using some of the FFT concepts and techniques in their work.

This half-day course is for all new staff who have recently joined Brighton & Hove City Council.

The course aims are to welcome new staff to the council, provide an overview of the visions and priorities of the council and give an opportunity to learn about the organisational and political structure.

New staff will have the opportunity to meet and ask questions of the chief executive or a executive director. 

The course will briefly cover areas such as learning and development opportunities, staff travel, health, safety and wellbeing, and equalities and diversity.  It is an effective starting point for new staff to increase their knowledge of the city council and network with other new staff.
