The Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards are an addendum to the Mental Capacity Act. This Certificate in Food Safety is only for kitchen staff and those with a main role working in a kitchen and handling food in adults and children's services. Adult social care staff who may handle food as part of their role should apply for Food Safety, Nutrition & Hydration.

This programme will ensure that food handlers meet the training requirements of the Food Safety (General Food Hygiene) Regulations 2013 and are fully conversant with the practical procedures and methods of applying food hygiene in the workplace.

Professionals can play a crucial part in determining whether clients change or maintain their problem behaviour. Engaging and building service user’s motivation for change is one of the key challenges workers face. Motivational Interviewing is a collaborative, highly effective, evidence based and deeply client centred approach aimed at helping people achieve positive behaviour change. This course will present the opportunity to enhance existing knowledge and skills as well as provide a comprehensive introduction to those with little or no experience of Motivational Interviewing.

This update is for staff who have attended the safeguarding adults basic awareness training in the last 3 years and need a refresher.

The course is a reminder of the main principles of adult safeguarding in line with the Care Act and the Making Safeguarding Personal approach. It explores practice issues regarding abuse or neglect to service users, including the responsibilities of staff in preventing and reporting this. This course is aimed at frontline staff who support adults.

Code: BH/18/0517 First Aid at Work (3 day)

This course is for those that will be acting as lead first aiders and will provide candidates with a recognised first aid at work qualification.

Upon completion of the course, First Aiders will be able to take control and provide assistance in an emergency situation at their workplace Candidates will be able to respond to an accident or illness promptly, effectively and safely.

Topics covered include: resuscitation and CPR, dealing with wounds, bleeding, burns, scalds, heart conditions and minor injuries.

Attendees will undertake a practical and written assessment on the final day of the course. On successful completion, you will be a recognised First Aider for 3 years; you are not required to attend the one day emergency first aid training as well.

NB: Suitable clothing taking some physical activity into account should be worn.

This 30 credit module is for qualifed social workers and primarily those who wish to gain the necessary knowledge and skills to enable them to take full responsibility for the teaching and assessing of a student social worker up to and including the student's final  social work placement. In order to apply for this module you must have discussed and agreed with your manager to take responsibility for a Social Work Student on placement.

Practice Education Stage 2 will assume prior knowledge of, and build expertise in, the critical analysis and application of, the following issues:

  • building solid foundations for the learning relationship - induction, using networks, learning contracts
  • models of supervision, including reflective supervision
  • analysing and applying theories of learning
  • using research to enhance practice teaching and direct practice
  • organising, pacing and managing learning experiences of others
  • promoting anti-oppressive practice in practice education
  • developing and operating equitable and robust systems of assessment
  • teaching and facilitating critical reflection and reflexivity
  • teaching and facilitating the effective use of knowledge in social work practice
  • working with students in challenging situations

As part of this module you will be observed undertaking different tasks of the practice educator role on at least two separate occasions, including the presentation of video-recorded material to the module student group.
