This course for professionals in Families, Children and Learning will examine the theory and practical applications of Attachment Theory, using the Secure Base Model, which provides a positive framework for therapeutic caregiving, to inform what we can do to promote resilience and emotional well-being within individuals and systems. This includes developing security through not only relationships with specific attachment figures but from a secure base provided by the whole environment (family, friends, school, activities). The course is structured to give an overview of this key theoretical framework within Child Development, and how it fits with national and local drivers, initiatives and contexts, with opportunities for different professional groups to consider how to be ‘Attachment Aware’ in their practice. It is relevant for all professionals who work with young people and families.

Code: BH/22/0410 BHSCP - Improving Outcomes for Looked After Children (EVENT FULL)

Course Aims:
Attendees will have an opportunity to develop knowledge and skills that enhance their contribution to improving outcomes (both emotional and physical) for those children that they are responsible for or in their care. It will highlight the essential partnership working required across health, education, social care, police and other partners to achieve optimum health.


Target Group: This multi-agency training opportunity is aimed at all practitioners and carers working or caring for looked after children or care leavers. This includes foster carers, residential workers, GPs, Health Visitors, School Nurses, Independent Reviewing Officers and Supervising Social Workers.

Messages from practice and research highlights that children and adults who are care experienced have higher rates of physical, emotional, social, and educational need, and are more likely to experience homelessness, teenage pregnancy,  prison  and problems with their mental and emotional health. They are also more likely to die younger. The majority of children who enter care have suffered significant harm, neglect and trauma, and some are children who have travelled alone from their country of origin to seek asylum in UK.

Code: BH/21/1568 Court Work - Skills in Written Evidence

This course is mandatory for newly qualified social workers and is also suitable for Children’s Services practitioners who are responsible for submitting written evidence to the Court, particularly social workers.

Practitioners who attend court are required to submit a range of written evidence in support of their plans for a particular child. This can include statements, chronologies, assessments and care plans that are available to all parties involved in the proceedings.

This course aims to equip practitioners with the skills to submit written evidence of a high standard to the court.

This virtual training session covers the important features in Microsoft Teams to help you to communicate and collaborate effectively using teams and channels. It is run by members of the Connecting You training team.
As part of the session, attendees will join the Welcome to Microsoft Teams at BHCC teams. This is a space where you can find useful information, test the functionality in Teams and ask questions.

Code: BH/22/0253 Paediatric First Aid (2 days) (EVENT FULL)

This qualification is for people who have a specific responsibility at work, or in voluntary and community activities, to prepare the learner to develop the skills and knowledge needed to provide effective first aid to children and infants.

It is mandatory for those working with children from birth to five years. It is also suitable for those working with children from birth to puberty, including foster carers, schools and CVS practitioners.

Assessment
There are seven Practical assessments, observed by the trainer throughout the course. There are two Theory assessment/multiple choice question papers. The pass mark is 11 out of 15 for Unit 1 and 18 out of 25 for Unit 2.

In addition, the trainer will carry out on-going assessment to assess the learners’ knowledge, skills and understanding related to the assessment criteria.

To assess competence and gain certification, the learner will need to demonstrate, without assistance from a third party, practical tasks such as CPR with the casualty on the floor to simulate a real-life situation.  If the learner is unable to carry out this practical assessment, for example because they cannot kneel, then they will not pass the course and will not gain the qualification. In exceptional circumstances, learners who are not able to kneel may be able to carry out the task from a standing position, and this is acceptable.

Each learner is provided with a course manual.
 
Re-Certification
This qualification is valid for a period of 3 years. The learner needs to re-take the qualification before the certificate expiry date to remain qualified by attending a full two day/twelve hour Paediatric First Aid course.

The programme has been amended due to the Covid-19 outbreak and infection prevention control measures and special instructions for attending this course are detailed below in the additional information.
