1 in 5 people in Brighton & Hove say they were too embarrassed to attend their cervical screening & worried that it will hurt.

The Speak Up Against Cancer team are working to raise awareness of the importance of the breast & cervical screening programmes and self-checking, as well as early signs and symptoms. The team are fully trained, local volunteers with an experience of cancer. They believe that the power of lived experience is extremely powerful and are keen to hear from other local people whose cancer was caught early and successfully treated.

This course covers the essential elements of food safety to enable you to safely prepare and handle food and to support people with their nutrition and hydration needs.

Course attendees will be given a certificate of attendance. There is a multiple choice assessment at the end of the course which will be marked and given to participants to discuss with their manager upon return to work. Code: BH/18/1714 LSCB - Trauma Informed Practice a Multi-Agency Approach

Trauma, particularly in early childhood, can have severe impact on a child throughout their life. It can manifest as behavioural issues, and have a severe effect on both their mental and physical health. When they grow older they may can be drawn into violence, criminal activity, and self harm, as well as being more likely to engage in health-harming behaviours. These issues can continue to have effect on the manner in which they interact with others throughout their life, including their own children, and they are more likely to become a victim of abuse, or a potential perpetrator, in their own relationships.

We often refer to these traumatic events Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE). Almost half of the adult population of England have had some form of adversity within their childhood or adolescence. These can include bereavement, neglect, violence, being witness to domestic abuse, sexual assault and substance use by parents and carers.

This training event will raise awareness of the issues relating to working with children and families where there has been some form of trauma. This is a joint enterprise between the Local Safeguarding Children Boar (LSCB), Public Health and partners from Sussex University

This one day course is designed to increase staff awareness of the possible injuries to themselves and to enable them to carry out transfer operations safely. The course includes informal discussions and practice in transfer techniques.
Numbers on the course are strictly limited to allow time for all participants to practice the various transfer techniques and use of the transfer aids.

Participants will receive an attendance certificate to show that they have received training under the Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992
