Code: BH/21/0172 BHSCP - The Impact of Parental Substance Misuse Part Two (EVENT FULL)

Some of the serious effects of parental substance misuse for children include abuse, neglect, emotional problems, educational difficulties, being young carers of parents or siblings, and a potential to later use drugs or alcohol themselves.

This course is included within the training programme as it clearly highlights these issues facing children and young people who live within the households where substance misuse is an issue. You will learn about what agency services are available to support the whole family, thus reducing or removing the potential risk/s of abuse.

This training is provided by Brighton & Hove Safeguarding Children Partnership (BHSCP) in partnership with an external trainer.

The session will be split into two 90 minute presentations using microsoft teams.

Knowledge is changing rapidly around the experiences and capabilities of those who are autistic or have a learning disability, many changes coming from within these communities themselves.

This module takes a research and rights focused approach to working with autistic people, learning disabled people, and those who are both autistic and learning disabled.

You will look at these challenges from a family perspective across the lifecourse, considering work with autistic/LD parents, children, teenagers and adults.

This will be taught through 3 full-day sessions over a five week period during the University’s spring term.

You can choose to take the module at an undergraduate or postgraduate level. Whilst both will receive the same taught content, the module assessment will be tailored to meet either BA year 3 standards or MA standards.
