Code: BH/20/0302 Person Centred Risk & Restrictive Practices for Lead Staff

This course is for senior staff and staff with responsibility for leading good practice. It is now in two halves and this is the second half of the training -  please see special instructions below.

Working with risk and supporting service users with complex needs to live their chosen lifestyles can feel difficult. Getting the balance right in respecting individual rights whilst also fulfilling our duty of care is important. Following robust procedures can help us in getting the balance right for service users.

A restrictive practice is any practice which could be construed as potentially restricting a person’s rights of choice, self determination, privacy, freedom/freedom of movement. Under the Care Act restrictive practices may need agreement by a social worker, and at times necessitate Deprivation of Liberty applications.

This course will assist participants to demonstrate they have complied with all CQC and legal requirements, and that alternatives to restrictive practices have been appropriately considered. It will help people promote & evidence good risk assessment and restrictive practices procedures, to ensure that people are not unnecessarily restricted in our desire to manage risks.
