Code: BH/18/1125 Adolescent Development

Adolescence is a time of great change and transition for young people and parents alike. Young people move through a number of complex biological, social and psychological stages during this time which can vary according to cultural context. For some, it can be a period of great stress and anxiety as teenagers face many questions about their identity and where they fit in their world. It is important that practitioners have a sound understanding of the different aspects of adolescence in order to support young people and their parents and carers through this process.

Code: BH/18/1363 Operation Encompass: Key Adults Briefing

The impact of Domestic Abuse & Violence on children is significant. Witnessing domestic abuse is really distressing for a child, who can often see the abuse, hear it from another room, see a parent's injuries or distress afterwards or be physically hurt trying to stop the abuse. Following such an incident, children will often arrive at school upset and unprepared. Operation Encompass aims to ensure that appropriate school staff are made aware early enough to support children in the best way possible through sharing basic information after the police have attended a Domestic Abuse incident where a child was present.

The Local Safeguarding Children Board hopes that all schools in Brighton & Hove commit to becoming Operation Encompass Schools, and this briefing session by Sussex Police will equip selected staff to become Key Adults with the information to recieve these notifications.
