Code: BH/19/1477 First Aid - Paediatric (2 days)

This course is mandatory for those working with children from birth to five years.

It is also suitable for those working with children from birth to puberty, including foster carers, schools and CVS practitioners.

This two day course and certification is dependent upon successful continuous assessment of the delegate, who will complete an assessment paper during the course. Participants must attend both days to achieve the Certificate in Paediatric First Aid, a recognised qualification valid for three years.

The programme has been amended due to the Covid-19 outbreak and infection prevention control measures and special instructions for attending this course are detailed below in the additional information. Please ensure these are read and understood before applying and attending the programme. Delegates can also request a full copy of the risk assessments that cover this training course.

NB: Suitable clothing taking some physical activity into account should be worn.

This 3 hour workshop, delivered via Microsoft Teams, aims to help foster carers keep themselves and their foster children as safe as possible and will cover the following:

Introduction to safer caring
• what makes children and adults feel safe or unsafe?
• what is safer caring?
• Fostering regulations and standards
Risky situations and behaviour
• the hidden side of safer caring
• signs and symptoms of risky situations
• assess and manage risks
Safer caring policy
• what is a safer caring family plan?
• how to draw up and regularly revise a safer caring family plan
• develop strategies for managing risk
Communication and support
• discussion and decision making to manage risk
• records to help keep everyone safer

The training will be participative, with practical examples and exercises to help everyone relate the learning to their fostering.

Code: BH/21/0100 Safer People Handling Risk Assessor - 3 Sessions over 3 days (EVENT FULL)

The Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992 require employers to make suitable and sufficient assessments of all manual handling operations and to take appropriate steps to reduce the risk of injury to the lowest level reasonably practicable. This course will provide assessors with the necessary information and skills to undertake assessments of manual handling needs. 

This course is for managers and senior staff who will be carrying out manual handling assessments, and who have not completed either this course or the shorter refresher course ('Safer People Handling Risk Assessor Refresher') within the last 18 months.

Participants will receive an attendance certificate to show that they have received training under the Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992.

Due to Covid-19 training restrictions this course will run differently. 

This course will run over 3 consecutive days as follows: - 

• Day 1 = Half day 09.30am - 12.30pm – Virtual online Teams session - covers the legal foundation for Risk Assessments 
• Day 2 = Face-to-Face - practical session – 2 hours per 3 delegates - Manual Handling Training Room, Montague House
• Day 3 = Half day 09.30am - 12.30pm – Virtual online Teams session - indepth session on documentation and problem solving.

You must attend all 3 sessions.  

Infection prevention control measures and special instructions for attending this course on Day 2 are detailed below in the additional information. Please ensure these are read and understood before applying and attending the practical session. Delegates can also request a full copy of the risk assessments that cover this training course.

The practical training session will take place with 3 delegates and will last for 2 hours. The allocated training session times are: -
09.30am – 11.30am
11.45am – 1.45pm
2.00pm – 4.00pm.


When you receive confirmation of a place you will also receive confirmation of your allocated time on Day 2. Where possible, if you are able to attend with staff in your organisation you will be placed together.
