Code: BH/19/0092 Autism Spectrum Awareness for Autism Champions

This is a basic awareness course aimed at people who are interested in becoming an autism champion. Autism champions are people from all areas of work in Brighton & Hove (both council employeees and people who do not work for the council) who are interested in removing barriers to  their services in order to enhance access to people on the autism spectrum.


The course will consider the autism spectrum as a whole and consider the experiences of autistic people living in a neurotypical world. Participants will have the opportunity to hear the first hand experience of autisic people, either through written accounts, video or presentations.

This course will ensure key workers are clear about the importance and expectations of their role for their service users. The course will look at how care planning is used as an effective means of communicating, in order that service users are understood, and that their needs are met in accordance with their wishes.

Code: BH/18/1792 First Aid at Work (3 day)

This course is for those that will be acting as lead first aiders and will provide candidates with a recognised first aid at work qualification.

Upon completion of the course, First Aiders will be able to take control and provide assistance in an emergency situation at their workplace Candidates will be able to respond to an accident or illness promptly, effectively and safely.

Topics covered include: resuscitation and CPR, dealing with wounds, bleeding, burns, scalds, heart conditions and minor injuries.

Attendees will undertake a practical and written assessment on the final day of the course. On successful completion, you will be a recognised First Aider for 3 years; you are not required to attend the one day emergency first aid training as well.

NB: Suitable clothing taking some physical activity into account should be worn.

This course is specifically for Brighton & Hove City Council managers and staff who are moving into or aspiring to management roles in the near future at the council
 
This two day course will provide an opportunity for managers to discuss and debate the challenges they face in managing performance at Brighton & Hove City Council. Opportunities will be available to explore different approaches to managing performance and how to manage both effective performers and staff who are underperforming.

Part of the course will involve finding out about the HR policies and procedures you need to know and carry out to deliver your role effectively.


A central component of the course will be analysing our performance as managers by identifying our strengths and areas for development in our managerial roles.


This is a skills based course with plenty of opportunities to work in small groups, develop skills and receive peer feed-back.


The course will offer a variety of management tools to enable managers to develop their management practice.

Code: BH/18/0790 Safer People Handling Risk Assessor Refresher

The Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992 require employers to make suitable and sufficient assessments of all manual handling operations and to take appropriate steps to reduce the risk of injury to the lowest level reasonably practicable. This course will provide assessors with an annual update on the information and skills to undertake assessments of manual handling needs. This course is aimed at staff who have completed the Safer People Handling Risk Assessor refresher course or the full course ('safer people handling risk assessor') within the last 12 months.

Participants will receive an attendance certificate to show that they have received training under the Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992.
